What’s Your Stevenson Story?

STEVENSON STORY

My life changed in a moment.
A moment that I can’t remember.

We were driving down the road in the middle of winter – my husband, myself, and our two children – when we suddenly hit a patch of black ice.

The car somersaulted. It flew into a ditch on the side of the road. But I don’t remember that.

I remember  hanging upside down, stuck in place by my seatbelt.
I remember  the searing pain in my arm and in my leg.
I remember  having to wait for the first responders to get to me, because I couldn’t pull myself out of the car.

I remember them using the jaws of life to cut me free. I remember hearing the broken glass and shearing metal. It took every ounce of strength I had to not panic, to stay calm.

The last thing you want to do after your entire family was in an accident is worry that they would be alright. I am so, so lucky that we live near Stevenson Memorial Hospital. They took such amazing care of me and my family so that we were able to focus on our recovery.

I know you get it. I know you understand how valuable Stevenson is to us all. I know that because of you, we have access to quality healthcare close to home. And that’s why I’m asking you now to make a gift of $25, $50, or of $75, so that other families will also have Stevenson there for them.

Make your gift today.

There has never been a better time to give.  Your support fuels transformational change as we invest in a revitalized Stevenson Memorial, our community hospital.

Because my family needed it.
And maybe, when you least expect it, your family will need it, too.

I was so scared, but the wonderful doctors and nurses at Stevenson were on the ball and made sure that we were all safe and cared for.

X-rays and scans revealed that I had a broken wrist and a broken heel. Between the surgery and recovery, I was in the hospital for 7 days.

The effects of a single moment of the crash affected me for much, much longer.

It was terrible. I fell into a bit of a depression. I needed someone’s help to do anything, move anywhere – I felt so useless! That’s when Lindsey visited me. She was my physiotherapist and honestly, if it wasn’t for her, I’m not sure I would be walking today.

Lindsey was so positive with me. Just a ball of light! She was determined to set realistic, daily goals with me: let’s take a step today. Let’s take two steps tomorrow. If I was getting frustrated, she would call it a day – she knew that I was only going to hurt myself by pushing.

“This is our planned attitude,” Lindsey told me every day throughout my recovery. “We’re going to plan to be positive and get just a bit better each day.”

It worked! I owe so, so much to Lindsey and the entire Stevenson team.

What’s crazy about my story is that it’s not particularly special – how many people have been in a car accident before? How many people have broken a leg or needed help to move around after an accident? For Lindsey, helping her patients is something that she does. It’s her job. But for me? Lindsey helped get my life back on track after a disastrous car crash.’

That’s why I’m asking you to make a gift today to Stevenson. Together, we can ensure that quality health care is always available for the next patient who walks through our hospital doors. Will you say join me with a gift of $25, $50, or even $75?

I know this for sure: your gift will impact someone’s life.
