TRANSFORM OUR SPACE
Because of You, We Can!
Your gifts mean the world to us. Please watch this video that shows the needs of our hospital – and of the changes your generous gifts will make.
Transforming our space
Because of you, we can grow to meet the needs of our growing community
We began planning for the redevelopment of our Hospital more than a decade ago. Today, we are making Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s transformative vision into a reality. Our new and revitalized spaces will both reflect and support, the exceptional, high-quality health care Stevenson Memorial Hospital consistently provides and offer greater comfort and privacy for you, your family, and the community at large. Once completed, our brand new, two-storey, 100,000 sq. ft., wrap-around addition will more than double the size of our hospital and the expanded parking area will triple capacity.
Here’s what you and your family can expect to benefit from when the work is completed:
A greatly expanded Emergency Department will triple in size and feature separate rooms.
Preservation of our helipad and a new ambulance bay.
Increased number of patient rooms in the Inpatient Care Unit.
Our Surgical Services Department will more than double in size.
An enhanced Birthing Unit with new labour and delivery rooms, reception, and family/waiting area.
Renovations will also be made to many other areas of the Hospital.
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
Our Emergency Department accounts for over half of all hospital visits. Built in 1964, it was meant to accommodate only 7,000 annual visits. Now, we are seeing close to 40,000 visits per year.
The new, much larger Emergency Department will feature an expanded waiting area and an increase number of patient rooms.
Essential Equipment
Because of you, we can make faster diagnoses
NURSE CALL BELL SYSTEM
The NaviCare Nurse Call Bell System will facilitate 2-way communication directly between patients and their nurses. The state-of-the-art system will even include text messaging and voice capability.
INFUSION PUMP – PHASE 2 WIRELESS
45 smart infusion pumps are now used hospital-wide to provide fluids and medication intravenously. Phase 2 allows them to be made wireless.
ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY MACHINE
Getting an echocardiogram (ECHO) can be a life-saving procedure. ECHOs quickly identify issues related to the arteries, valves and structure of the heart so that doctors can promptly diagnose the presence and severity of heart valve problems. ECHOs can also determine abnormal flow within the heart that occurs with congenital heart disease.
What many people don’t realize…
Although it comes as quite a surprise to most people, in Ontario, a hospital’s capital equipment expenditures are generally funded by its local community. Hospitals throughout the province must source their own funding to both purchase and maintain equipment – everything from beds and stretchers to diagnostic imaging machines. Not even projects like ours are fully funded by the government. To transform our space, implement Stevenson’s new Health Information System, and purchase essential equipment for our hospital will cost approximately $180 million of which we must raise $43 million.
Health Information System
Because of you, we can provide access to important health care information to the thousands of people we care for at Stevenson each year
SHARED HEALTH INFORMATION NETWORK EXCHANGE (SHINE)
In 2017, Stevenson partnered with Markham Stouffville Hospital and Southlake Regional Health Centre to implement a new Health Information System (HIS) at all three hospitals, the Shared Health Information Network Exchange (SHINE). The first of its kind in Ontario, SHINE allows us to participate in the creation of a sophisticated electronic records system. Investing in this highly advanced system will revolutionize health care here at Stevenson. Most importantly, it will provide us opportunities to spend more quality time with those we have the privilege of serving: people like you and your family!
