W.D. Potato Donates $50,000 in support of Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation

[New Tecumseth, ON – January 6, 2023] – The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) is pleased to share that in December 2022, W.D. Potato generously donated $50,000 to the Because of you, we can Campaign in support of Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH).

W.D Potato, located in the heart of New Tecumseth, Beeton, Ontario, has been a family owned business for three generations and has been a part of the potato business for over 50 years. Walter Davidson arrived in Canada from England over 65 years ago with only $15.00 in his pocket, and today has a successful business growing, storing, transporting, and supplying potatoes all across Canada and parts of the United States.

“The vision for our business is to work together and build long lasting, beneficial, rewarding relationships.  By providing Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation with this donation, we build on that same vision with our community hospital and the people in which it serves,” says Linda Davidson, Vice President of W.D. Potato.

“Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation is so grateful for this generous gift from W.D. Potato.  The history of families and businesses in our community brings us back to the grassroots of how Stevenson Memorial Hospital came to be and it’s what helps us continue to grow and serve those who live here,” expressed Mary Thomas, CEO of Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Earlier in 2022, The Morningview Foundation made a commitment to match all donations received between April 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, dollar-for-dollar up to $1 million.  The donation from W.D. Potato went towards the Because of you, we can Campaign, the largest campaign in the SMHF’s history, supporting the redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.  The hospital’s redevelopment plan includes a revitalized Emergency Department, doubling the square footage of the hospital and tripling the amount of parking space. Refreshed outpatient rooms, birthing suites and laboratory space are also included in the plans. With an Emergency Department built to manage 7,000 visits a year that currently manages close to 40,000 per year, along with a growing population in south Simcoe and surrounding communities, this redevelopment is needed today and for future generations.
