Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation Receives a Generous Donation of $21,340 from the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary

[New Tecumseth, ON – Thursday, June 27, 2024]—The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) proudly accepted a generous donation of $21,340 from the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. This significant contribution will directly impact patient care, as it will be used to purchase six Staxi Transport Chairs, enhancing the comfort and safety of our patients and reaffirming our commitment to their well-being.

Staxi Transport Chairs are essential for Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) patients, ensuring safe, comfortable, and efficient transportation when accessing healthcare services. These chairs are designed for easy maneuverability by caregivers, enhancing the overall patient experience. They are known for their durability, ease of use, and unique nesting feature, which allows for convenient storage and quick accessibility.

“It’s vitally important that we provide reliable modes of transport in the hospital for the benefit of our patients with mobility issues and our staff from a safety perspective,” says Barbara Steed, Interim President and CEO of SMH. “The Staxi chairs are a very welcome addition to the hospital, and we are very grateful for the work and dedication of our SMH Auxiliary.”

The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, founded in April 1928, has a long-standing tradition of supporting the hospital through various fundraising activities. Over the years, the Auxiliary has raised over $1.1 million, significantly contributing to procuring essential equipment for Stevenson Memorial Hospital. This recent donation, a testament to the community’s unwavering support, was made possible through proceeds from the Auxiliary’s Tag Days and Annual Raffle sales, demonstrating the integral role of our community in our operations.

“The Auxiliary is excited to bring this much-needed addition to our hospital.  One chair is in use now, and five more will come soon,” replied Carla Beckett, President of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.  “Over the summer, we will be at various events in New Tecumseth and Thornton, where you can purchase the Wheelbarrow of Wine lottery tickets.  The tickets are also available in our Gift Shop.  We thank the community so much for supporting our fundraising endeavors.  Your generosity makes a difference in quality patient care in our hospital.”

“We greatly appreciate the continuous support from the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Through their fundraising efforts and numerous initiatives, they play a crucial role in ensuring that individuals in our community continue to receive high-quality healthcare when they visit Stevenson,” said Darlene McLeod, Interim CEO of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation. “This donation underscores the community’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services and ensuring that Stevenson Memorial Hospital remains equipped to provide exceptional care.”

The Because of you, we can Campaign is the largest campaign in SMHF’s history. Donations received help purchase essential equipment, upgrade technology, and complete critical renovations essential to the transformation and redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.  The hospital’s redevelopment plan includes a new Emergency Department that will triple in size. With an Emergency Department built to manage 7,000 visits a year that currently manages close to 40,000 per year, along with a growing population in South Simcoe and surrounding communities, this redevelopment is needed today and for future generations.
