Township of Adjala-Tosorontio Donates $110,000 to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Because of you, we can Campaign

[New Tecumseth, ON – Nov 4, 2022] – The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) is pleased to announce that the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio has presented the SMHF with a generous donation of $110,000 to the Because of you, we can Campaign in support of the redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH).

Adjala-Tosorontio is a township in south-central Ontario, in the County of Simcoe.  A neighbouring, and predominantly rural area west of New Tecumseth that provides many farming and business opportunities.  “The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio and its elected council recognize that an important strength of its community is its health,” stated Township CAO Nelson Santos. “And access to healthcare services remains a critical priority for community care through its well-recognized community hospital. On behalf of Council and Staff at Adj-Tos, we are grateful for the professional care today and are invested in securing care through our community hospital into the future.”

“This donation brings us one giant step forward in reaching our goal of $1 million dollars for the matching gift from The Morningview Foundation,” says Mary Thomas, CEO of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation.  “We are very thankful for the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio’s generosity as it shows the importance of the continued support that our community hospital is in need of.”

Earlier this year, The Morningview Foundation made a commitment to match all donations received between April 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, dollar-for-dollar up to $1 million. Those funds will go towards the Because of you, we can Campaign.  The Campaign is the largest campaign in SMHF’s history, supporting the redevelopment of SMH. The hospital’s redevelopment plan includes a revitalized Emergency Department, three times the current size, doubling the square footage of the hospital. Refreshed outpatient rooms, birthing suites and laboratory space are also included in the plans. With an Emergency Department built to manage 7,000 visits a year that currently manages close to 40,000 per year, along with a growing population in south Simcoe and surrounding communities, this redevelopment is needed today and for future generations.
