Alectra Donates $6,200 to Purchase Critical Equipment for Stevenson Memorial Hospital
[New Tecumseth, ON – March 7, 2022] – The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) is pleased to announce that Alectra Inc., through the AlectraCARES Community Support Program, has generously donated $6,200 to purchase a Dialysis Ultrasound, Vascular HandHeld for Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH).
The AlectraCARES Community Support Program provides funding to charities and non-profit organizations that support the most vulnerable in its service territory. Through the program, Alectra has become a long-time supporter of the Hospital, generously contributing over $37,000 since 2017 for various Hospital initiatives, including the purchase of vital equipment.
“Alectra is pleased to support the critical care needs of Stevenson Memorial Hospital,” says Brian Bentz, President and CEO, Alectra Inc. “Every day, thousands of chronic disease patients need Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s help. This need has been especially true during the pandemic. Having adequate equipment can make a significant difference in patients’ lives and the care they receive. We’re proud to be continually supporting the Hospital so it can provide the best-possible care for the community.”
The Dialysis Ultrasound, Vascular HandHeld is used for assisting in cannulating new fistulas and grafts. It’s a portable machine that helps find the best location to place the cannula, a needle-like tube that’s inserted into the body for dialysis treatment. Fistulas and grafts are a lifeline of the patient, so it is very important to preserve the life of the fistulas and grafts, which this device will help us achieve. It will aid in evaluation of new fistulas for size and lengths to ensure it meets the standards and are ready to be used and it will aid a cannulation process for any difficult access. It is compact, easy to use and will make cannulation experience better for the patients.
“Some of the public may not be aware that hospital equipment is not funded by the government. It’s part of our role at the foundation to raise the funds for that purpose. We have an annual commitment of more than $1 million to meet the hospital’s priority equipment needs, but those needs are always greater than our funding capacity. We are so appreciative of this support from Alectra, in helping to ensure our health care workers have the vital tools necessary to provide quality patient care for our community,” says Mary Thomas, CEO, SMHF.
The Because of you, we can Campaign is the largest campaign in the SMHF’s history, supporting the redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital. The hospital’s redevelopment plan includes a revitalized Emergency Department, doubling the square footage of the hospital and tripling the amount of parking space. Refreshed outpatient rooms, birthing suites and laboratory space are also included in the plans. With an Emergency Department built to manage 7,000 visits a year that currently manages close to 40,000 per year, along with a growing population in south Simcoe and surrounding communities, this redevelopment is needed today and for future generations.
