Essa Township Donates $15,000 to the Because of You campaign in support of the Stevenson Hospital
[New Tecumseth – October 16, 2025] – The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) is pleased to announce a generous donation of $15,000 from Essa Township to support the Because of YOU campaign. This contribution will significantly support equipment and technology needs and the construction plans for Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s (SMH) new facility, due to open in the spring of 2029.
Essa Township, situated in the County of Simcoe, is a neighbouring rural community northeast of New Tecumseth, known for its rich agricultural heritage, particularly potato farming. The area boasts a strong military presence, with the nearby CFB Borden, and is home to many Francophone families. On June 3, 2025, Essa Township held its 23rd Annual “Swing for Health” Golf Tournament, raising funds specifically to support local healthcare initiatives, including Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
“We are proud to contribute $15,000 from our Annual Golf Tournament to Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation,” said Mayor Sandie Macdonald of Essa Township. “Access to a modern, well-equipped hospital is essential for the health and well-being of our community, now and in the future. We are honoured to support the Because of YOU campaign and the critical redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.”

The Because of YOU campaign is a bold and ambitious effort to raise $80 million through community support to help build the future of Stevenson Memorial Hospital. This transformational project will triple the size of our hospital, providing expanded emergency care and advanced diagnostic imaging, including Stevenson’s first MRI suite, modern inpatient facilities, and specialized surgical services, all designed to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our growing community. As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2028, we stand on the threshold of a new era, just as our founders did nearly a century ago.
