Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation Receives $5,000 from Alectra to Assist in the Purchase of Critical Equipment

[New Tecumseth, ON – February 8, 2024] – The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) is pleased to announce that Alectra Inc., through the AlectraCARES Community Support Program, has generously donated $5,000 toward the purchase of Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Instrumentation for Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH). This donation will directly contribute to enhanced patient care and will support the hospital’s ongoing commitment to excellence in healthcare and women’s health.

This instrumentation is specifically used during a laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure, which is a minimally invasive surgical method to remove the uterus.  Accessibility to this specialized instrumentation enables the opportunity for minimally invasive surgical alternatives for gynecological conditions. SMH uses these tools to offer gentler surgical options, improve patient experiences, and meet the rising demand for these kinds of procedures.

“We are proud to continue supporting the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation in their mission to provide exceptional healthcare to the Alliston community,” said Brian Bentz, President and Chief Executive Officer, Alectra Inc. “We’re committed to making a positive impact through our AlectraCARES Community Support Program, and we’re excited to help purchase specialized equipment to enhance patient care.”

The AlectraCARES Community Support Program provides funding to charities and non-profit organizations that support the most vulnerable in its service territory. Through the program, Alectra has become a long-time supporter of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation, generously contributing over $52,000 since 2017 for various hospital initiatives, including the purchase of vital equipment, Level 2 ICU beds, a Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pump, and now Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Instrumentation.

“This generous contribution will play a role in furthering our commitment to delivering outstanding healthcare services to our community. With the support of partners like Alectra Inc., we can continue to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of our patients,” stated Mary Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of SMHF.

The Because of you, we can Campaign is the largest campaign in the SMHF’s history, supporting the redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital. The hospital’s redevelopment plan includes a revitalized Emergency Department, doubling the square footage of the hospital, and revitalizing parking for visitors. Refreshed outpatient rooms, birthing suites, and laboratory space are also included in the plans.  With an Emergency Department built to manage 7,000 visits a year that currently manages close to 40,000 per year, along with a growing population in south Simcoe and surrounding communities, this redevelopment is needed today and for future generations.
